Municipal administration can literally be described as administration of a town, city or borough or its local government. Though the concept of city, civic, and local self-government is very old—mentioned in ancient Greek, Roman, Persian, Chinese and Indian annals. In fact, the civilization culminates the civic sense of citizens, as such city being at centre-stage. The size or organisation and settlement pattern may be somewhat different in different settings. In modern times, with industrialisation the urbanisation process has accelerated leaps and bound. Thus, migration of population led to development of urban centres. Various factors and activities like industrial/occupational, socio-cultural, educational economic and political are responsible for attracting the people all around and to concentrate and settle at some places, resulting in growth of city-centres. The present work on history and development of Municipal Administration contains well researched articles drawn from various authoritative sources e.g. Abstract, reports, reviews, books, magazines and journals.
