India’s growth experiences, the focus of all world economies is worth emulating. This book deals extensively with an important aspect of India’s growth – India’s industrial growth with a detailed analysis of its sources and their determinants. In a developing country like India, where rapid growth has become a national goal, it helps in identifying the factors which have or have not been important in the growth of Indian industry. The study analyses sources of growth from supply side as well as demand side. Further, a detailed econometric analysis of factors influencing various sources of growth on supply side– productivity growth, growth of capital, employment growth, and on demand side -domestic sales growth and export growth has been done at firm level to gain a good understanding of factors influencing growth of an industry.Another important feature is that it not only discusses the trends in the sources of growth of Indian industry since late 1950’s but it also makes a comparison with that of other regions of the world; East Asia, South Asia, Latin America, Africa and Middle East; and other developing and developed countries of the world. Its significance and contribution is enhanced by the fact that it analyses the impact of reforms by making a comparative analysis of pre-reform and post-reform period. This volume will thus be immensely useful for researchers, planners, and policy makers in formulating policies further for India’s growth.
