IT (Information Technology) has been at the center stage of the past decade (1995-2005) with E-mail, Internet, Java, Google and the Mobile Phone changing the very lifestyle of millions of people. This decade also saw India emerging-Indians like Infosys Chairman Murthy and Wipro Chairman Premji are hitting global headlines’ of The Economist and Business Week. Indian IT companies TCS, Infosys and Wipro are Billion Dollar Corporations employing 50,000 professionals each. Global products (Apple iPod, Nokia, Phones and I-flex Flexcube) have “India Inside”. The three books IT: Technologies and Products, IT: Perspectives and Trends, and IT: Careers and Companies, capture the different moods and facets of this fascinating journey of Information Technology. This book, IT: Careers and Companies, is written primarily for the college students who are constantly seeking information about the diverse options they can pursue and the corporations that will offer them exciting career opportunities. Many of these articles were influenced by the thousands of queries, often through e-mail, that the author has been receiving from the students across the length and breadth of the country. Interestingly, a large number of IT professionals, academics, government officials and other professionals have also been requesting the author for copies of these articles (may be for their wards!). Often they need advice on broad issues, areas to focus, encouragement and insight and the book seeks to serve that purpose.
