ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sowmyanarayanan Sadagopan

Sowmyanarayanan Sadagopan is the Founder Director of the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore, a new generation Institute, promoted jointly by the Government of Karnataka and IT industry in 1999. He has the experience of teaching for more than two decades at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK), as well as the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB). He has also taught for a full term at Rutgers University New Jersey, USA and AIT Bangkok, Thailand, in addition to short term visits to several premier Universities around the world (Including Standard & MIT). The courses he has taught are in the areas of Enterprise Computing (ERP, E-Business, E-Commerce, Enterprise Systems), Computing (ERP, E-Business, E-Commerce, Enterprise Systems), Computing and Communications area (Programming Languages, Database, Networking, Systems Programming, Algorithms and Data Structures, Software Architecture), Information Systems (MIS, DSS, ES) and Operations Research (Optimization, Simulation, Quantitative Methods, Statistics, Probability, Stochastic Processes). Professor Sadagopan received his Bachelor's degree in engineering from Madras University in 1973. After a brief stint at the Consultancy firm M/S Engineers India Ltd., at New Delhi during 1973-1976, he moved to Purdue University, USA for his Master's and Doctoral degree before returning to India to teach at IIT, Kanpur. He is a Fulbright Scholar and his research work has appeared in several national and international journals including IEEE Transactions, European J of Operational Research, J of Optimization Theory and Applications, Naval Research Logistics, Simulation, Decision Support Systems and ACM Ubiquity. He has authored two textbooks Management Information Systems (Prentice Hall 1995) and ERP-A Managerial Perspective (Tata McGraw Hill 1999), in addition to several book chapters. He is a referee for several journals and serves on the editorial boards of many journals as well as a featured Columnist for Times of India, Financial Express and CIO Magazine. He consults widely for the corporate sector both in India and abroad. Professor Sadagopan is a Fellow of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE UK), Computer Society of India (CSI) and Institution of Engineers (India) and a Member of the IEEE Computer Society, ACM and AIS.
