Today, increased globalization and heightened competition are changing the way logistics management is being viewed. Operating at a global level has its own challenges and issues which need to be addressed by the logistics operators. Logistics, at present, has been receiving increased attention in the corporate boardroom due to its ability to achieve strategic competitive advantage. The traditional role of logistics has undergone a tremendous transition due to changing business environment and corporate needs. This book is a humble effort to portray logistics as an agent of change. It explains the contemporary issues and trends in logistics management and how they can be used by corporations to gain strategic advantage. The book endeavors to identify the bottlenecks prevailing in the logistics industry and how solutions are mitigating these problems and accelerating growth for individual countries and globally at large. The book focuses on emerging practices and trends with respect to outsourcing (3PL, 4PL), integration, collaborative and advanced logistics. It includes the impact of geographical and cultural diversities on logistics operations of global companies. It emphasizes logistical customer service, and explains how companies balance the effect of increased cost and changing customer preferences. With the help of some articles and examples mentioned in this book, an effort has been made to drive home the point that logistics management can act as a change agent by providing revenue growth and responsiveness making the firm more efficient and profitable. It is hoped that the book will be of great value to organizations, if logistics management is used as a tool for business strategy.
