Farmers, irrespective of whether they are producing field crops, vegetables, fruits, flowers, forest trees, meat, milk, eggs, fish or silk etc., must have a remunerative return from them. This may be achieved through the scientific management of their enterprises. Management has been recognized all over the world as the scientific process by which the productivity of human as well as other resources may be enchanced. The present study takes into consideration Operational Management, which has a bearing on the day-to-day management of the farm operations and also strategic Management, which has a bearing on long-term management of the farm enterprise. Management development in the coming decades. The method of Factor Analysis was adopted to find out the management factors relevant for the farmers. On the basis of the variable representing the management factors and the attributes derived from the factors, a comprehensive management development process for the farmers has been suggested. This book adds a new dimension – Management development (Made) for the farmers – to the existing body of knowledge in the disciplines of Extension, Management and Agricultural Economics and also presents a methodology for such investigation.

Dr. G.L. Ray (b. 1928) , graduated in Agriculture from University of Dhaka, now in Bangladesh and got M.Sc. and Ph. D. degrees in Agricultural Extension from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. He was awarded ICAR Golden Jubilee medal in M.Sc. highest grade point average. His area of specialization Teaching, Training research, Transfer of Technology, Communication, Administration, Management and Field Work in extension. He supervised five Ph.d. these in Agricultural Extension and is also Editor, Indian journal of Extension. He has published more than fifty research papers and three books including studies in Agricultural Extension and Management (1989). Currently he is Professor of Agricultural Extension, Bidhan Chandra Kririshi viswavgidyalaya, Dist. Nadia, West Bengal.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.P. Bora
Dr. S.P. Bora (b. 1949), graduated in Agriculture from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat and got M.Sc. (Ag) from Gujarat Agricultural University, Anand and Ph.D. in Agricultural Extension from Bidhan Chandra krishi Viswavidyalaya, West Bengal. He has published ten research papers and has contributed an article in the book, Studied in Agricultural Extension and Management. His area of specialization: Training, Transfer of Technology, Communication and Field Work in Extension. Currently he is Agricultural Officer, in the Department of Agricultural, Govt. of Assam, Guwahati.
