ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sipra Chakravarti

Born is Bangladesh, Smt. Sipra Chakravati had her education at Sylhet, Kolkata and leiden. M.A. in Ancient Indian History and Culture as well as in Islamic History, she also specialised in Muscology in the University of Calcutta. Beginning his career in the Museums Branch, Archaeological Survey of India, she finally held the position of keeper, Indian Museum, Kolkata as the head of the Fine Arts and Crafts department. Smt. Chakravati has extensively travelled in the Western European countries, the United States and Soviet Russia to study and lecture on Museology and the history of Art. She has contributed to various journals on the art and crafts of Indian and her neighbouring countries viz., Nepal, Tibet and Myanmar as well as on various aspects of meseological atudies. Her book on Tibetan thanks in the Indian Museum and Paintings of Jamini Ray have been well acclamied by the readers.
