India happens to be one of the four leading manganese ore producing countries in the world with an annual production of manganese of 1.55 Million Tonnes provisional (Report I.B.M. in Indian Minerals Year Book, 2002) and the estimated reserves of manganese in India of 40.07 Million Tonnes proved (Report I.B.M. in Indian Minerals Year Book, 2002). Manganese ores are widely distributed throughout the peninsular region of India. The more important deposits occur in the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujrat, Bijar and Rajasthan. The manganese deposits of Andhra Pradesh have major occurrence in Srikakulam-Visakhapatnam belt with some minor occurrences of manganese known from Adilabad, Nizamabad and Prakasam districts of Adhra Pradesh, The total annual production of manganese of Andhra Pradesh is 0.13 Million Tones provisional (Report I.B.M. in Indian Minerals Year Book, 2002), and the estimated reserves of manganese of Andhra Pradesh in 1.08 Million Tonnes proved (Report I.B.M. in Indian Minerals Year Book, 2002). The present book on metallogenesis of manganese ores from one of the most mineral-rich states in India is a result of strenuous gelological fieldwork, in conjunction with arduous laboratory work. The purpose of the work has been not only to study the stratigraphy, structure, etc. of the study area but also to make a detailed investigation of its manganese ores with respect to their mode of occurrence, mineralogy, geochemistry, and probable nature, geochemical environment and genesis. The strength of the effort lies in detailed observations on several features made by the author, which is textbook would normally lack. The demand of iron and steel would continue to increase in the market and so is the demand for manganese. The story of manganese ore from Andhra Pradesh, as detailed in this book should not only attract the attention of academicians, researchers in the filed of geology, environment, mining and metallurgy, but also the entrepreneurs and the industrialists.
