The methodology adopted is based on qualitative approach, the influence of family, environment and individual’s motivation in achieving and sustaining excellence. Further, it also focuses on identifying those factors which hinder or obstruct these movements towards growth and excellence. The model developed by the authoress which is based on the findings is titled: ‘Self Motivational Process–Towards Excellence’ adopting qualitative analysis. Suggestions for the future studies have been made. The utility value of the present model may be made operative in other areas of disciplines like engineering, medical, law, entrepreneurship, administration, business management, human resources development etc. Further, cross cultural study in this area will also yield rich research results in all its comprehensiveness. The book focuses on these issues of paramount importance which are relevant and significant for futuristic approaches.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR D. Laavanya Balasubrahmanyam

Dr. D. Laavanya Balasubrahmanyam is Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at The Women’s Christian College, Chennai. She holds a consistent good academic record having secured 1st class both at B.A. and M.A. degrees awarded by the University of Madras. She was awarded the Indian Psychological Association Golden Jubilee and Madras Psychology Society Gold Medal by the University of Madras in 1995. Dr. D. Laavanya did research for her Ph.D. Degree in the University Department of Applied Psychology and Psychological services and was awarded the degree in 2002 by the University of Madras. A specialist in Counselling and Guidance, Dr. Laavanya has to her credit a few articles published in learned journals in Psychology. She was a recipient of research fellow ships awarded by the University Grants Commission. New Delhi and by the University of Madras in due recognition of her academic achievements. She is a member of academic bodies in India.
