ABOUT THE AUTHOR John Baptist Hoffmann

Reverend John Baptist Hoffmann (1857-1928) was a missionary, social worker and scholar who lived amongst the Mundas and studied their language and culture. We know of his three titles to fame: (a) his role in framing pro-Munda provisions of the Chotanagpur Tenancy Act (1908) (b) his conception and initiation of the monumental project on the Encyclopaedia Mundarica and (c) founding of the Catholic Cooperative Society (1908).
