India presents a significant pattern of cultural and ethnic diversity. Indian people differ in their socio-cultural levels as well as in their behavioural perspectives. Indian Society has been exposed to various socio-economic changes and legal initiatives over the last five and half decades. The Constitutional provisions of democratic governance and the policy of positive discrimination have affected the social fabric and economic structure of Indian society. However, it is highly stratified with many glaring inequalities among the different social groups. OBC’s still suffer from the stigma of inferiority and low socio, economic status. The progress and prosperity of a nation is judged from the socio-economic status of its population especially of the weaker sections of the society who are suffering from abject poverty, hunger, disease, unemployment, exploitation etc., as well as disadvantaged groups like woman, children, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, OBC’s minorities etc., as well as disadvantaged groups like woman, children, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, OBC’s minorities etc. Present book highlights the status of OBC woman and discusses the scope of their educational empowerment for over all socio-economic development. It also presents critical review of recommendations of various commissions and committees set up by state governments while special emphasis has been laid on analyzing the status of OBC’s in India and particularly in Uttar Pradesh.
