This study attempts to understand how social norms develop amongst different personality and gender groups. Employing Sherif’s autokinesis and Asch’s perceptual tasks, along with two tests -anagrams and serial positioning effect, it investigates whether introverts or extraverts and males or females learn social norms faster as based on observational contentions of Eysenck.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Anita Sharma

Dr. (Mrs.) Anita Sharma (b. 1957) passed her M.A. in Sociology from Panjab University, Chandigarh and B. Lib. Sc. from the university of Delhi. She was awarded Ph.D. degree from Magadh University, Bodh Gaya. Currently Dr. (Mrs.) Sharma is engaged in further research.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Dalip Malhotra

Prof. (Dr.) Dalip Malhotra received his M.A. (Psychology) and Ph.D. from Panjab University, Chandigarh. He began his teaching career in 1976 at the Himachal Pradesh university, Shimla as an Assistant Professor. He visited U.S.A. in 1990 as a Fulbright scholar at the West Virginia University. He has about 80 research publications in national and international journals. He completed a major research project on the productivity in public and private sector enterprises funded by the U.G.C. in 2002. Presently he is engaged in the project entitled Enhancement of Achievement Motivati0on and Scholastic Attainment in tribal students of Himachal Pradesh. he became professor of Psychology in June 1995 and currently is the Chairperson of the Deptt. of Psychology at the Hinachal Pradesh university, Shimla (India). He has also remained Dean of the faculty of Social sciences between 2001-2004.
