Electricity is an important input for the economic development and the pace of growth and development of our economy depends very much upon it. it is a prime indicator of the prosperity and progress of a country, industrially, economically and socially. The demand for electricity in our country has been enormous and it is ever increasing. Therefore, the government has to do its best constantly in improve the supply system of electricity, as in turn it would decides the future growth of our country. It is a big challenge to the ministry to meet the target fixed by the government, providing for all by 2010. It is hoped that the present study would, in its own modest way, help to understand the power situation in the country and both consumers and policy-makers would find it of practical value. It is surely of great use not only to the policymakers but also various researchers and research organizations, the N.G.O’s and consumers in general.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR D. Himachalam

Dr. D. Himachalam (b. 1953) did his M.Com. (1979) and M.Phil. (1982) with 1st class from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. He was awarded Ph.D. Degreein 1989. He joined in the Department of Commerce, Sri Venkateswara University as a Lecturer in 1985. He has published 15 papers in reputed journals and 5 unpublished papers to his credit. He has attended a number of National and International Conferences. He has worked as a Joint Director of the Seminar ’Consumerism in India-Problems and Prospects’. His area of specialization is co-operation and Financial Management.
