Our primary concern in this book is methodology used in academic research, that is the conscious effort to advance knowledge about public administration. These, methods generally used in the social sciences are included, whether qualitative or quantitative in nature. However, methodologies for administrative research such as programme evaluation, client surveys and productivity measurement have not been included. These methods focus on generating knowledge about the problems of particular organizations or programme and are not included in the scope of this study. As the foregoing suggests, methodology and research are closely linked. Methodology exists to guide the conduct of research, methodology is reflected in research.
