Reference and information services began in the late nineteenth century, largely in response to the growing prevalence of publicly funded libraries seeking to serve relatively inexperienced and unskilled readers and scholars. With increasing dependence on the library by readers and scholars, these services came to be function. Today, with a stronger instructional role, reference and information services are more proactive in providing a fully developed repertoire of services responsive to the multifaceted queries faced by librarians. The goal of the present book is to give the reader a through overview and a broader understanding of the possibilities of references and information services. It introduces the reader to the sophisticated and interesting aspects these services. This work is intended primarily to meet the requirements of the students of library and information science. It will also serve researchers, library professionals and users of library and information services.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR N. Verma
Neerja Verma is a well known academician in the field of Library and Information Science. She did her M.Sc. in Chemistry in 1980 from Jiwaji University, Gwalior and M.Lib & Doc. In 1980 from University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Further she obtained Ph.D. in Library and Information Science in 1997 from Jiwaji University Gwalior and PGDLAN in 2004 from University of Hyderabad. She has contributed many articles in different professional journals and is an active member of many Professional Societies. She has wide experience of Teaching and Research. Presently she is working as Head in Deptt. Of Library and Information Science in M.L.B. Govt. College of Excellence, Gwalior (M.P.).
ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.R. Verma
Shiv Ram Verma was born in a teacher family on April 1st 1966 in the Village Asta, District Jhansi (U.P). He did his M.A. from Bundelkhand University, from Jiwaji University Gwalior in 1992. He secured First Class in Graduate and Post-graduate Degree Course in Library and Information Science and passes NET (UGC) in 1992. He has worked in several responsible positions, such as, Librarian Kendriya Vidyalaya Talbehat, Lalitpur; PSS Central Institute of Vocational Education; National Council of Education; National Council of Education Research and Training, Bhopal and Deputy Libratian Bundelkhand University, Jhansi. Presently he is working as Librarian in the Bundelkhand University, Jhansi (U.P.)
