The success of special education program depends on the teachers who are working in the special schools. In the special education context, the teacher’s roles are diversified in nature. Such multiple roles to be performed by the special education teachers demand certain specific knowledge, skills and right type of attitude to deal with different situations within and outside the school. Sometimes, even though the teacher is knowledgeable, he/she may lack co-operation from the parents, community and co-workers. Identifying the problems and the ways and means of overcoming such problems will go a long way to enhance the capabilities or competencies of special education teachers to perform their multiple roles effectively. Keeping the above in mind, this book focused its attention on preparing the exhaustive list of roles to be performed by the special education teachers dealing with, VI, HI, MR and OH children. More than this, the book attempts to identify the problems faced by the special education teachers dealing with VI, HI, MR, and OH children. The book also gives an extensive review under different headings related to the title i.e. studies on teacher effectiveness, teaching success, attitude of teachers towards teaching success, role expectations of teachers and special education teacher competencies, role performance, attitude and characteristics. The book also provides the ways and means to overcome the problems of special education teachers to perform their multiple role effectively.
