ABOUT THE AUTHOR R.R. Biradar

R.R. Biradar is a faculty in Economics at Karnataka University, Dharwad since 1999. Previously, he worked at the Centre fro Multi-disciplinary Development Research, Dharwad and the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore. He has published several research articles in reputed journals, edited books and reports. He has been the recipient of "Sanjay Thakur Young Labour Economist Award" conferred by the Indian Society of Labour Economics for the year 2005 for his research contribution on: Growth of Employment in ICT Sector in India: Emerging Issues and Challenges In 2006, he received the “Sir Ratan Tata Visiting Fellowship” by the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore in collaboration with the Ratan Tata Trust. The Fellowship was awarded to carry out a project on "Incidence of Poverty among Social Groups in Rural India: Why Do SCs/STs Experience Greater Incidence of Poverty?" in 2007, he visited China under India-China Cultural Exchange programme jointly sponsored by ICSSR, New Delhi and CASS, China for a study on "Human Development, Poverty and Inequality in India and China; Emerging Evidence and Issues." He is directing a UGC Major Research Project on ‘Poverty Alleviation through Micro-credit Programme of SHGs: A Study of Four NGOs in South India’ during 2007-09.
