ZAHEER BABER is Professor of Sociology at the Universtiy of Toronto, Canada. He is the author of The Science of Empire: Scientific Knowledge, civilization and colonial rule in India (Albany: State University of New York Press, 1996) and editor of Cyber Asia: the Internet and Society in Asia (boston: Brill, 2005). He has published paeprs in a number of journals such as The British Journals of Sociology and is a frequent contributor to the Times Literary Supplement.
