During the Eighth General Elections in Bangaldesh and athe days which followed, there were large scale atrocities on the Hindus of that country. This novel by Salam Azad documents real life incidents that took place at that time. There are many instances of Hindus being subjected to oppression in independent Bangladesh but those are nothing compared to the large scale and well planned genocide that took place then. The four party alliance government formed with the support of fundamentalists was interested in either eliminating the Hindus or driving them out so that an Islamic and pro-Taliban regime could be set up. A daughter was raped in her father’s presence, mother and daughter were sexually assaulted side by side. No one was spared, either a seven year old girl or a sixty year old woman! What led to this inhuman act? Why did one community let loose a reign of terror on another? The novel tries to find answers to some of these questions.
