Child abuse is a violation of the basic human rights of a child and is an outcome of a set of inter-related familial, social, psychological and economic factors. Child abuse is a state of emotional, physical, economic and sexual maltreatment meted out to a person below the age of eighteen and is a globally prevalent phenomenon. Child abuse has serious physical and psycho social consequences which aversely affect the health and over well being of a child. The growing complexities of life and the dramatic changes brought about by socio economic transition in India have played a major role in increasing the vulnerability of children to various and newer forms of abuse.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Neelma Kunwar

Dr. Neelma Kunwar is officer in-charge of Department of Extension, Communication Management, College of Home science, C.S. Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur (U.P.). She obtained Ph.D. and D.Sc. degrees in Agricultural Extension from B.R. Ambedkar University, Agra (U.P.) during 1993 and 2004. She has published 20 research papers in National journals and 109 popular articles in magazines of repute. She has received award under A.R. Bhatt Award Scheme of Small Scale Industries, Ministry of GOI on her book Grameen Mahilaon Ke Liye Swatah Rozgar. She is member of Professional Women's Advisory Board of the USA and expert in Research Degree Committee, Bundelkhand University, Jhansi (U.P.) and SIRD, Lucknow (U.P.). At present, 3 and 5 students have been awarded with M.H.Sc. and Ph.D. degree, respectively.
