The proposed volume focuses upon the issue pertaining to the livelihood of these artists which is at stake. As “live entertainers” they are loosing importance in society and are deprived fo their rights to livelihood. As a Human Right issue, the interests of the artists and the institution of the artists and the institution need to be protected. The part II dwells upon the history of this institution in Maharastra, the themes and contents of these art forms and the relevance of understanding Tamasha and Sangeethbari as a humane subject and to nurture this age old art from. Further it addresses to the social and economic contexts within which these forms operate, their patrons, and changing scenario. Next part is on the perceptions of the artists about their own profession and the public attitude towards these art forms,. The book shall be of interest to those engaged in media research, Human Rights, policy makers and the general readers.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Prakash M. Katare

Dr. Prakash Marotrao Katare born in 1954, did his masters in Social Work from Marathwala University, Aurangabad. He obtained his Ph.D. in Sociology from Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. He has published number of research articles in Journal of national repute. He is recognized Ph.D. Supervisor of S.R.T.M. University in Sociology. Presently he is working as an Associate professor in School of Social Sciences, S.R.T.M. University, and having a P.G. teaching experience of 20 years. He has presented research papers in national Seminars and Conferences. He was the member of management Council of S.R.T.M. University Nanded from 1996-2001. he has a quality of leadership and command competency in his discipline.
