Multiple Contexts and Insight makes an attempt, selectively but representatively, to meet the need of critically considering and understanding some of the canonical literature of various countries, viz. South Africa, America, England and the West Indies with special emphasis on Indian writing in English. It underscores contemporary literature and sensibility besides major critical theories of our day, specially postmodernism, postcolonialism and the alter/native and ethnic and gives voice to eminent critics and scholars as well as the upcoming ones with rich promise for the future. The writers discussed at length or referred to in some detail in the volume, are Amitav Ghosh, Arundhati Roy, Anita Desai, Nayantara Sahgal, Shashi Tharoor, Khushwant Singh, Bessie Head, Julian Barnes, Adrienne Rich, Philip Larkin, J.M. Coetzee, Saul Bellow and all time contemporary Shakespeare. The book does not claim to be entire landscape of the contemporary literature in English but serves as a window on wider horizons including the reader to step out, fare forward and fare well.
