Research at Lady Irwin College has always focused on contemporary needs of society. A broad spectrum of contemporary issues have been addressed in the recent past. To mention a few, these include, women’s rights, women in leadership, gender empowerment and entrepreneurial development, nutritional problems of women, children, adolescents, the elderly, children with special needs, growing consumerism, quality assurance of goods, consumer protection, recognition of the textile heritage of the country, newer fiber and textile usage, preparing national inventory, database and cataloguing and patenting. Further, the college is also involved in networking with other universities, industry, NGOs, GOs, and other autonomous bodies. In the past decade, globalization and liberalization have made an impact on every facet of societal living. Accordingly research in the college has attempted to understand the various manifestations of globalization and liberalization and its interlinkages to current societal trends and phenomena. To showcase all this fascinating plethora of information along with the associated experiences of the faculty, the college has undertaken the publication of Lady Irwin College, Technical Series, supported by DSA/UGS funding. Volume 1 of the series, published in 2002, addressed the issue of ‘Indian Consumer-Behaviour, Education and Protection’. The present Technical Series 2 looks into ‘Sustainable Entrepreneurship in Commnities’. With today’s world becoming a global village, all communities are facing major challenges for creating and sustaining processes and structures that bring about satisfactory development. One way to achieve this is to promote self-employment, which necessitates nurturing and developing entrepreneurial talents. Volume 2 has focused on various dimensions of sustainable entrepreneurship-Understanding Entrepreneurship, Starting Entrepreneurial Ventures-Design and Management, Intervention Studies and Entrepreneurship Development in Community.
