Few religious teachers have influenced the modern Hindu worldview as effectively as Swami Vivekananda, and few have been oft-quoted. Yet, there has long been a need for an inclusive critique that is both appreciative and historically realistic. Professor Abraham Stephen here provides just such a timely and valuable critique. This comes at a time when it is crucial for interfaith relations to move forward. This lucid and scholarly exploration of Vivekananda’s social thought will be of interest not only to scholars, but to everyone who is trying to understand the ideological roots of modern India. Dr Abraham’s book is of great contemporary relevance and should attract a broad readership and contribute to important debates of today.
