Urban Geography' is that branch of science, which deals the study of urban areas, in terms of concentration, infrastructure, economy and environmental impacts. It can be considered a part of the larger field of human geography. Urban geographers seek to understand how factors interact over space, what function they serve and their interrelationships.

The present text has been written as an introductory manual into the field of urban geography. Urban geography forms the theoretical basis for a number of professions including urban planning, retail store site selection, real estate development, crime pattern analysis and logistical analysis and logistical analysis. The text considers how the subject is relevant to these fields, and brings under consideration the current trends and developments within the filed too. Also incorporated within the text are critical insights which give the readers a better look into the intricacies of the field.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Hemant Kumar Doniwal

 Hemant Kumar Doniwal, M.A., Ph.D., has had a brilliant academic career. He won Gold Medal for his outstanding performance in M.A. (Geography) Examination. He was appointed as lecturer of geography in 1978 and at present he is working as a reader. He has more than 20 years of service at his credit and hence having a teaching experience of the same duration. As a prolific writer, the author has several publications in geography and allied fields. The author has also to his credit a number of research papers and articles on the subject. He has participated in various refresher courses, seminars and conferences held at the national level from time to time. At present he is working on various projects such as Population Geography of Uttar Pradesh, Indian Political Geography, etc.
