The present study is a pioneering effort in contributing to some extent towards the understanding of the socio-economic problems of informal women labourers. The study examines the problems of construction women labour and women employed in domestic services in a backward state like Orissa, in the national framework. Both primary and secondary sources of data have been accumulated and used for analysis of factual data so as to make the study more interesting and useful. Tripathy is one of the products of the intensive research effort which brought in the Green Revolution. with a Master's degree in Agronomy and a doctorate in Biotechnology, he has been actively associated with research institutes in the area of rice and wheat research. He has also served with the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) as senior scientist.
