This volume presents a brief history of twenty-six Indian women who have made their mark in different fields. These women came from diverse backgrounds and communities and made a mark in different fields they chose to take up. Their journey towards their goal is a poignant story of trials and successes they witnessed at different point of time. Their personal lives are a source of inspiration to both, boys and girls, who can take pride in mentioning them at different forums. Perhaps it would also instil in them certain human values such as caring and sharing, valuing each other’s contributions and truly translating some of the constitutional commitments, i.e. promoting equality between sexes. It is true that these women can be counted in numbers, but their achievements in different fields such as sports, administration, fine arts etc. have left a deep imprint in our society and have done the country proud. The success stories of these women also demystify certain notional feelings that women are capable of only "feminine" roles. In fact, through their personal examples they have proved that given an opportunity, girls/women are capable of performing all those activities that a male does and also excel in them.
