Smarak Bal is a budding writer that possesses maturity that is extraordinary for such a young man. I have had the privilege of knowing and interacting with him in the past few years and have observed how he sees the beauty in the most stereotypically mundane things. He uses his sensitivity and sentiment and transforms his subjects into much more than what meets the eye.

Aside from the complex explorations of life at large, Smarak possesses exceptional wit and humour, which has been a platform upon which we have built our friendship. The person who writes the thought provoking and gripping poetry, is the same person that I have sat for hours speaking to, and his unusual thought process has always set him apart from the herd.

I see Smarak as a courageous and expressive individual, and what I enjoy is how well he has harnessed his talent for lyrical language. The work that has gone into the production of this collection of poems reveals his inner nature, his thoughts, and his conscious, but the experiences I have shared with him, an unusual seventeen year old boy, and the unflinching dedication he has shown in editing and criticising his own work makes him more of a man than the boy he still is.

Smarak is that breed of young men that lies outside of the materialistic and consumerist world, and makes the best of everything that he puts his mind to. I hold him in very high esteem and his playful and tender spirit have better helped me understand his writing and the person he has become.
