Shattered Dream a symbol of partition. This well off family of Maijpara found a shelter in the outskirts of Jadavpur. It was only after their talented son Anurag got a job in the government sector that they were able to see better days again. After retirement, Anurag had a deep desire to visit Maijpara again to see the Shattered Dream and the place where he had spent his childhood. However, on reaching Dhaka, he reads the lead news of the inhuman behaviuor and the atrocities committed on a Hindu family of Bagerhat. He leaves Dhaka for Bikrampur, the next day. Before reaching Maijpara, he had a chance of meeting Nurul Hussain, his childhood friend. Seeing the sprouting innumerable madrasas and the mosques in Bikrampur and Bangladesh, a number of questions arise in his mind. Nurul Husain briefs Anurag abut the education given by madrasas about Islam. He also informs him about the Muslim belief that a place is always secured in heaven for a person if who could get a non-Muslim converted into Islam. Communal education is imparted here everyday. The novel, Shattered Dream, depicts in details, with this subject, the Quran and Islam.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Salam Azad

Salam Azad was born on 10 July 1964 at Damla Village in the Bikrampur of Bangladesh. He studied in JC Bose Institution and was an outstanding student there. Later he went to Gadbandha Government College and Dhaka University.
