"Education, employment and empowerment are the three vital weapons that have been recognised as powerful tools in ensuring the upliftment of women. There is pressing need for planners and policy makers to understand and encourage the empowerment of the Indian woman. With education comes employment and with this comes economic freedom, upon which the edifice of empowerment is built. Only when this is achieved can we hope for a transformation in the feudalistic pattern of society in India. In recognition of the above facts, this book charts out the position of women in India vis-a-vis their educational achievements and employment opportunities. The present lacuna in educational facilities and the discriminations faced in employment have been addressed methodically. In this volume, the author emphatically states that all these need to be ironed out if women’s participation and contribution to the national economy is to grow. This book with its comprehensive coverage of the topic, is a must for teachers and researchers in sociology, and Women’s Development studies. It will also be of great interest to women’s associations, Social Welfare agencies, policy makers and other administrative bodies concerned with women’s development."
