Land, Law and The Left: The Saga of Disempowerment of the Pleasantry in the Era of Globalization

This book attempts to examine the various dimensions of development–caused displacement in West Bengal under the Left Front Government. Centring around land acquisition by the government for industrial projects and its adverse impacts on the peasants, it makes an in-depth study of the policy dimensions of land acquisition and its administrative procedures. Besides describing the socio-economic and political consequence of land acquisition, it documents the resistance and bargains carried out by the people. Finally, it makes an overall evaluation of the emphasis of the development policy of the Left Front Government in West Bengal.
