This compendium of thirty articles seeks to examine the important aspects of the economic and social life of some ethnic groups in North East India. It brings forth the bio-demographic pattern of the ethnic groups and their different ethnicities, identities, genetical make-up and political and religious systems of the region.
It discusses at length the tribal situation, status of education and globalization, societal development, effect of migration on demographic parameters, biological aspects, uneven growth pattern, economic condition and resource utilization, livelihood through forests, and livelihood pattern and health care. It also deals with the agricultural growth, land use system, population and occupational diversification, women tea plantation workers, traditional inequalities, issues and challenges faced by women for eco-management, prevalence of tuberculosis and other diseases and the survival strategy of tribes of North East India. The tribal communities, studied here include Noctes, Nagas, Sema Nagas, Moria Muslims, Rabhas, Lepchas and Riangs.
