People move from rural areas to urban areas for various reasons. The main reason for the migration is the uneven distribution of resources in the economy. Economic constraint at the native place of the migrants motivates them to leave their place of birth in search of livelihood or economic betterment in urban zones. Migrants are drawn to the cities by the economic forces such as domestic terms of trade, the diffusion of technology from the western countries and the growth of modern large scale urban industries. According to the policy-makers, migration within as well as outside the country contribute to the growth of the economy. Improving infrastructure facilities in rural areas is essential to prevent migration. Public, private partnership in basic facilities like education, and health is essential to stop the rural migration.

The government, banks and other organizations provide the basic needs for the people in the rural areas to prevent rural migration. They help the rural people in many ways to improve their standard of living. Financial institutions like NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development), RBI, Commercial banks, and regional rural banks play an important role in improving their quality of life.

The book focuses on all the issues related to rural migration and suggests certain preventive measures.

B V S Prasad is an Engineering graduate from IIT, Kharagpur and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He has over 30 years of varied industry experience in Consultancy, HR, Finance, Production and Industrial Engineering areas.
