The book contains the collection of papers presented at the seminar on ‘Technology in Medieval India-16th 18th Century ‘held at Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, Calcutta September, 1984. In recent times there has been significant researches in the field of History of Sciences in India. Following the lead given by Prof. Irfan Habib, Aligarh Muslim University, researches have been undertaken by different scholars in the field of technology in medieval India. This seminar held in Calcutta, first of its kind in eastern India, attempted to bring together the researches undertaken so far. In this Proceeding’s Volume Prof. Habib has discussed the potential of general development of technology in medieval India. Others have attempted to show that there were certain kinds of development in the field of metallurgy, textile, firearms, agriculture etc. The literary texts have been supplemented by the reproduction from contemporary miniature paintings.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Aniruddha Roy

Aniruddha Roy is at present the Reader in the Department of Islamic History and Culture, Calcutta University. He has completed his D. Litt. from the University of Paris (Sorbne) and has attended various national and international seminars. He has written more than 50 articles and a book on Mughal Administration. Governor of Pondicherry is in press. He is a Trustee of the Victoria Memorial Hall, Calcutta.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.K. Bagchi

S.K. Bagchi, is the Director of the Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, Calcutta. Mr. Bagchi is working in the Museum since 1962. He is a Mining Engineer by profession. Mr. Bagchi has contributed several articles on Musecology in various national and international Journals.
